Do you want as much practice as possible speaking English? Staying with a Canadian host family is the best way for you to make the most of your time in Canada. It is also the most popular choice for our students.
By living with a Canadian family you will have many opportunities to practice speaking English and learn about Canadian culture. Your host family will be eager to meet you and introduce you to Canadian culture.
All ACCESS host families are of the highest quality. Our Homestay Co-ordinator carefully interviews and screens all host families to guarantee your safety and comfort. The ACCESS homestay program comes with various choices to suit your personal needs and budget.
At ACCESS we care about our students. If you are unhappy with your homestay, we will quickly give you a new homestay for no extra charge. When you apply you can tell us what kind of family you would like.
We have many types of homestay families. Although you cannot specifically choose your family, you can tell us what kind of family you prefer. We will do our best to match you with a host that meets your preferences.
Here are some preferences you can request:
- married couple, no children
- married couple, with children
- single person
- dog or cat in house (most families in Canada have a dog and/or cat. These animals will not go in your bedroom)
- other students
One of the most important parts of homestay is spending time speaking in English with your family at meal time. Students selecting no meals (“Roomstay”) will not have nearly as much interaction with the family. For this reason, we recommend students select 2 or 3 meals per day.
** Please note that we will never place you in a homestay with another student who speaks your language (unless you request it).
Meal Options
- 3 meals a day
- 2 meals a day (breakfast and dinner)
- no meals (Roomstay)
